HIM Emperor Bao Dai (1926-1997)

The Order entered a period of abeyance following the death of Emperor Bao Dai until it was reorganized as an association of chivalric character belonging to the patrimony of the Imperial House in 2002.

Provisional Grand Master

HE Nguyen-Phuc Buu Chanh (2002-2004)

In December 2004 the hereditary prerogatives of HIH Crown Prince Bao Long, son and heir of HIM Emperor Bao Dai, were reasserted, and the temporary governance of the Order was invested in a lieutenant pending the appointment of a new grand master chosen from among the qualified princes of the Imperial House deemed acceptable by the HIH the Crown Prince.

On 1 August 2005, a magisterial decree was issued by the Grand Council of the Order in accordance with conditions set out by HIH the Crown Prince, as Head of the Imperial House and Sovereign of the Imperial Orders, for the future governance of the IODA.
